The characteristics of swelling and biodegradation tests of bovine amniotic membrane-hydroxyapatite biocomposite

Background: A good biocomposite is a structure that can provide opportunities for cells to adhere, proliferate, and differentiate. It affected by the characteristics of material. As bone tissue regeneration occurs, biomaterials must have high swelling ability low biodegradability. The capability will larger surface area support maximal cell attachment proliferation on surface, which accelerates process defects. Purpose: study aimed analyze biodegradation bovine amniotic membrane-hydroxyapatite (BAM-HA) with various ratios. Methods: BAM-HA ratio 30:70, 35:65, 40:60 (w/w) was synthesized using freeze-dry method. test done measuring initial weight final after being soaked in phosphate-buffered saline 24 hours simulated body fluid seven days. Results: percentage at each 303.90%, 477.94%, 574.19%. 9.43%, 11.05%, 12.02%. Conclusion: has highest while 30:70 lowest biodegradation.
